Ildefonso Avelar
It is with great Sadness that Team PRS have had to announce the retirement of the Legendary Rider Ildefonso Avelar. The most successful rider in the team’s history has decided to step down to allow the youth policy to prove itself moving Forward. This announcement closely follows that of the retirement of Donald Pattyn and leaves a massive hole in the teams makeup and not least historical link. Originally from the small town in Portuguese town of Marinhais where the flat roads of the surrounding areas allowed him to develop his sprinting skills.
After turning professional in S17, at the age of 23, with Portuguese outfit calissimo Ildefonso soon moved onto the Dutch team vacansoleil dmc before joining team PRS and developing into an outstanding sprinting captain. Success was soon in coming with his first victory coming in season 19 and at least one victory following in the next 5 seasons. Season 21 was the first standout term for Ildefonso with team PRS progressing from div 5-3 under his Captaincy, culminating in a second place in the SC of the ROTM and then winning Alkmaar-Alkmaar in div 3. His finest form was found in season 23 with Team PRS firmly established in div 3 the level of competition was more then comfortable for Ildefonso with 13 top 10s and 4 results in the season with a total of 648 OCM points.
His most celebrated achievement came in the 13th running of the Baltimore Invitational and winning the Shark Fin trophy that comes with it.
At the age of 30 his star began to wane and with it team PRS’s position in the OCM tour dropped, however, there was still time for a couple more victories before he took a step back and became more of a leadout sprinter and an experienced campaigner within the team.

A bright start with Harald winning in the first race of the season made up for the lack of wins in the previous season. A standard season followed with a number of top 10s and one 3rd place. The Perm Tour was the stage race of the season for team PRS and Arjan performed extremely well finishing up in 9th in the GC but also 2nd in the YC.
